Santos vs Botafogo Tips and Prediction

Santos is aware that a turn around in luck is required if they are to move up the Brasileiro table from tenth place.

Only two of their last 12 league games have resulted in victory, and they enter Wednesday’s game coming off a 1-0 loss to Avai.

Guilherme Bissoli’s penalty kick in the 10th minute was sufficient to lead Avai to victory, snapping a four-game Brasileiro unbeaten road streak.

Santos has played exceptionally well defensively this season, despite giving up at the weekend. The hosts are expected to enter the midweek match with the third-best defensive record in the league.

Santos can be confident despite their recent struggles to win games because they have prevailed in three of their past four encounters with Botafogo.

Botafogo, meanwhile, are only one spot below Santos in the Brasileiro standings, and a victory on Wednesday would allow them to overtake their rivals.

But since the visitors have lost their past three games, they will need to perform better if they are to get three points on Saturday.

The most recent of those three losses came during a match at home against Atletico Mineiro, the current Brasileiro champions. Despite the hosts pushing their opponents hard, Matias Zaracho’s goal in the second half gave the visitors a 1-0 victory.

Botafogo has not only had trouble accumulating points, but they are also having trouble scoring after failing to score in their previous three games and scoring just one goal in their previous six games.

Botafogo has fared significantly better on the road, with Wednesday’s visitors holding the joint-second best away record in the Brasileiro, while its eighth home league games have only resulted in seven points.

Although they are separated by only one point in the league, Santos has beaten Botafogo in three of their last four games, and we predict that they will win again on Wednesday.
